AMICO PROJECT

The aim of AMICO - Automazione e Monitoraggio Intelligente dei COnsumi -Project is to develop a multilevel architecture for assist decisions relating to power management, energy and security issues of ships during navigation and inland operations.

The main objectives concern:

  • The optimization of the management of energy resources.
  • The knowledge in real time the state of health of the vessel so as to ensure the timeliness of the interventions.
  • The study of new approaches to the design and construction of boats that optimize the "power consumed by the vessel in its overall life cycle (construction, operation, decommissioning) and for provide emergency management.

The architecture of the system is sketched in the following figure.

ECOS LAB contributed to the project with

  • A study of the reliability of complex systems and of the major techniques of Error Detection and Recovery based on soft sensors
  • A design of an agent-based and goal-oriented expert system for the planning and implementation of emergency procedures.

The following figures show two emergency procedures modeled from the information available on http://www.maritimeknowhow.com/home/emergency-procedures. In particular it is respectively the procedure for the management of the fire at sea and for the management of the abandonment ship.

The processes modeled according to the BPMN standard is automatically translated into a specific representation in GoalSpec (specific language goals).

In the case in which distinct emergencies are displayed at the same time the WFMS will be capable of applying a specific fusion algorithm to process the two specific GoalSpec of input processes so as to provide the definition of the procedure resulting from run. One possible outcome resulting from the function between the modeled following example procedures is shown in Figure [4]. The WFMS (WorkFlow Management System) system in accordance with the emergence signaled make a schedule by starting the execution of the necessary activities.
